Chain wallets offer the advantage of leverage—a full chain, that is. Chain wallets combine the use of a key case and wallet unit in one and thus allow quick access to a person's keys, driver's license, coins and cards. Chains can be attached to regular credit card wallets, a front pocket wallet, or tri fold wallets. Though leather is a popular choice of wallet material that goes well with a chain, chain wallets can also be made of other fabrics.
Types of Chains
Chains can vary greatly in style and size. Some chains are relatively short, measuring only about 16 inches or less. On the other hand, there are also extra long chains measuring 32-42 inches or above. The chain links themselves can also be smaller, as in metal beads or balls, or a double sized monster leash for the heavy-duty look. Heavy-duty chains might actually be lightweight if they are made from lightweight aluminum. Certain types of chains are colored though most are chrome plated and have a metallic shine.
The chain's hook piece is another variable feature in chain wallets. An end piece may be a sturdy snap hook for a belt loop (which pulls open in one simple push) or a compact hook with swivel that makes separation more difficult, or a twist close removable D-ring.
Unique Chains
But why settle for the old “ball and chain” when you can have a truly unique design? Chain wallets can feature many unique customizations, like heart shaped chokers or skull and biker designs, which can feature not only a hook or choker in the shape of a skull, but actual chain links. That's not to mention the many pendants and silver pieces you can fit on to your chain wallet for a unique look.
Chain wallets make very good travel wallets, as they are easy to carry and hard to lose. This is an ideal design if you want to protect your wallet contents. If you wear a chain wallet then any pickpocket will have to steal the wallet over your dead body!
